General FAQ
| |
Q. Can I buy these games in the
shops?
A.
At present, the only place you can buy any Purplenose games
is from this web site. You will not see any of our games on
retail shelves as we rely on the Try-Before-You-Buy sales
model as it allows us greater freedom in our game design.
|
| |
Q. What type of games do Purplenose
Games make?
A.
All of our games are nonviolent family safe games. We try
to design our games based on interesting ideas and concepts,
or take an existing idea and add a few of our own twists.
We won't release a game just because that particular genre
is topical. If a game isn't original and fun to play, it won't
get release.
|
| |
Q. What is the Purplenose policy
on e-mail privacy?
A.
If you submit you e-mail address to the Purplenose Newsletter,
we guarantee that it will not be shared with any other third
party, nor will any other information that you provide. We
will only use your e-mail address to inform you of upcoming
game releases, new Add-On
packs for our games.
Any credit card information
is handled by our e-commerce partner, ShareIT.
This information will be held in total confidence.

in a game. What can I do?
A.
All our games are structured in such a way that even if you

Download FAQ
| |
Q. How does the download process
work?
A. To download a
game from our site, browse to the particular game that you'd
like to play, and click on the Demo button beside
the game.
For more information, see our Download
Help
|
| |
Q. How long will the download
take?
A. The download
times for our games depends on two main factors: the size
of the game, and the speed of you Internet connection.
We try to pack as much into our games as possible using the
best compression methods available, so our games are not excessively
large. However, if you are on 56K modem, the games will typically
take 20 minutes to download in full.
If you have a broadband connection, the download times will
be significantly reduced, and will typically take 5 minutes
or thereabouts.

Q. What does Registration mean?
A.
The marketing method we use at Purplenose allows our potential
customers to first try the games for free, in a slimmed-down
trial version of the game. This means that it's a risk
free purchase, because the customer knows what they're
getting beforehand.
The process of registration
means after playing the demo, or trial version of our games,
the customer can upgrade the game to the full version, giving
access to all areas and features of the game.
Once the game has been bought, you
will receive a Registration Key to convert the game
from Trial to the Full version.

Q. How secure is the purchasing
process?
A.
We are very aware that people are reluctant to give personal
information such as credit card information away, especially
to a web site, mainly for security issues.
For this reason, we have employed
the services of a very well established e-commerce processor,
ShareIT.
ShareIT provides one of the most
secure online credit-card processing systems in the world:
|
"...share-it! holds a
VeriSign certificate for secure SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
transactions. share-it! is also a licensee of the TRUSTe
Privacy Seal Program.
Our FraudShield was developed
based on our experience in handling several million
transactions. share-it! operates redundant systems for
maximum system availability. "

Technical FAQ
| |
Q. Why won't the game run on
my computer?
A.
Generally, if you computer is less than four years old, and
you meet the required system specifications for the game,
there should be no reason for the game not to work. One typically
reason could be old or buggy graphics card drivers.
We test our games on hundreds of
machine configurations before releasing them, so the chances
are slim that it's a bug in the game, more likely a compatibility
issue with your machine, or software running on your machine.
Please see our Bugs
and Issues help page for more information.

| |
Q What version of DirectX do
I need?
A.
All our games require DirectX7. You can get the latest version
from the Microsoft web page, or alternatively, most magazines
that come with cover-disks also have the newest versions of
DirectX on them.
|
| |
Q What is DirectX anyway?
A.
DirectX is a bundle of software libraries produced by Microsoft,
that allow us the safely access the computer hardware inside
you computer. Games are notoriously greedy! They require access
to things like your display, your sound card, any joysticks
you may have attached, as well as the usual bits and pieces
like the keyboard and mouse.
DirectX allow us access all
this hardware in a safe and standard manner.
|
| |
Q. Do Purplenose games support
OpenGL?
A.
At present all our games will only use a DirectX based interface
to the hardware. This may change in the future.
